Good Morning Retiredrookie.
Thank you for your inquiry. A members votes, their average rating, their Point total and how many Green Thumbs a message receives though related are entirely different.
Member Votes: This represents the number of members who have given your profile a rating of 1 to 5 stars. This means that 109 members have given you a rating using our 5 star rating system.
Average Rating: This is the avergae of the 109 votes you have tallied.
Point Total: Our system was setup on two premises: Activity Points and Ranking Points. Your activity points are accumulated on the backend. You are allocated anywhere between 1 to 15 activity points depending on what actions you choose to partake in within AGORACOM (I will elaborate further shortly). Suffice is to say that activity points do not fluctuate a lot either up or down.
Your ranking points are a little different. They are the sum of the multiplication of your activity points, and your member rating (the five star rating system).
In the profile below:
http://agoracom.com/members/Ranking%...
I have setup an account which will act as a demonstration to how your ranking points can fluctuate. I have given the poster "Ranking points" 2000 Activity points, and voted on this members profile 7 times. You will notice that this posters total Points equals "8857". I would like you to give this poster a 5 star vote. Notice how the vote number changed from 7 to 8 and the ranking points have gone up considerably. Now lets flip the table; please give this member a "1" star vote. Notice how the votes remain the same but the members Points total declined...a lot.
AGORACOM community members can only vote on another member one time; our system is designed to record your most recent vote (e.g. if you had given "Ranking Points" a "3" on Wednesday and a "4" on Friday, we would only record the "4" vote).
Activity Points are a little different. For example you would get 1 point for simply posting; you would get 5 if your post were recommended by 10 other members for example. If you upload images to a shareholder community such as the Canadian Imperial Venture Hub, you would get 3 points. If you were Hub Leader, and you processed a violation report, or removed a message from a disruptive member you would receive 10 points.
Green Thumbs: This feature was setup to indicate which posts stand our for the rest. Users simply click the green thumb button when they feel that the post they are reviewing is worthy of others attention. The more green thumbs a message gets, the more activity points are allocated to the member who made the post account.
I hope the point system is now more clear however if you have any additional questions as to how the point system works, please do not hesitate to contact me for clarification.
Thanks again for your message and your contributions within the AGORACOM Community.
Regards,
Andreas Marouchos
AGORACOM Community Director
