I think the deposit does come to the surface but is covered by overburden. They also had some nice new cross-sections through -01 and -10 and -03, -04, -05. These sections show a nice consistent sequence of the chromite layers ( massive, banded, etc.), shallow and deep. -04 did not intersect any chromite layers, just ultramafic rock. There could be several interpretations, they show a fault truncating the chromite just above the -03 intercept, which is what I speculated. Mac speculated that it could be a xenolith(a large boulder-like chunk of rock) carried up by the magma from deeper in the crust.
I would think that the section is overturned by some intense folding of the strata by tectonic forces, after all there has been many 100's of millions of years since these rocks were deposited, plenty of time for these rocks to get twisted up pretty good. I hope that Mac gets these new maps posted to the web-site, they are impressive. As the saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words... or is that a '100 million tonnes'!!

Just one other thing, a layered mafic intrusion is one of the rarest geologic formations to be exposed at the surface. For me it makes the potential for PGE, Cu,Ni so exciting, chromite is the common thread. Also many of the chromite deposits on the planet do not have the thickness of Black Thor, not even close to 100 meters, IMO I really think this is a special chromite deposit.
