For the record I have created and moderated a number of websites that included live chat and discussion boards. Its not a job everyone will like. You have to have a hard nosed interior and a buttery smooth exterior. People have to know they won't get away with things, but will be offered the "privilidge" to speak within the forum with the same rights as everyone else.
The issues for the forum/hub leaders. Maybe we should be discussing them first to be sure hub leaders voted in are fully aware of what they are in for.
- Strick online code set out by Agoracom must be maintained.
- Ability to interpret where someone has crossed the line and broken the forum regulations.
- Ability to handle the problem individually with the confidence you have provided fair and equitable discipline where required.
- Being able to work within a team environment in order that the other hub leaders can do their job well too.
- Keeping in touch with the issues of the company so that your decisions don't negate the issues at hand. You don't slap the hand of someone who is dealing with contentious information just because they are saying things that may go against the grain of the forum majority.
- Being able to exert damage control where perhaps a hub leader removed someone they perhaps shouldn't have.
- Keeping strict rules regarding mud slinging competitions. No one is to be taking things out personally on anyone else. This forum is for information purposes only and not personal vendetta's.
- Be sure we have a couple of back up hub leaders in case someone is absent due to illness, vacation or becausee they leave wishing not to continue as a hub leader (this too can happen).
- Hub leaders need to be able to take critisism themselves as well as provide constructive comments of their own. No one is perfect and no one knows everything there is to know.
- Hub leaders should be IMHO nominated for a 1 year term and at that time a new nomination should take place. This keeps order but allows for a required dynamic within the governing framework of the forum.
- Hub leaders should always remember that they are holding a position of responsibility and must be sure they wish to hold to that responsibility prior to volunteering their services.
To all the hub leader nominees...best of luck and lets make this forum purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!
All the best,
Mustangman
