Quite to the contrary. Joining forces strengthens both individual parts.

It also makes no differene when and at what prices the two companies are at.
It is a ratio of exchange 4:1 and whether it is 1$:4$ or 2$:8$ matters not.

The ratio represents the relative value of one to the other and has nothing to do with time. Hence whether they drill or not is also irrelevant to the exchange issue unless one's drill results alter the value of one with respect to the other, hence potentially changing the ratio.

The only point of debate between the company's is whether the ratio is satisfactory to both.
