There's a certain amount of naivete being displayed here. Of course Mac has a fine reputation, but this is beside the point. At one point or another the juniors are going to be taken out. So he has a first choice here, and he will be very much part of a combined operation - until it too is taken out. (I remember Mac around out shop in the late 70s)
