Yet if a candaian company releases news about it's operations it includes a comment that the information is not to be distributed in the good old USA for fear of being prosecuted even if on many an occasion it is not listed on a US exchange.

That implies that US is prosecuting for actions even outside it's own territory while we meek canadians are loath to do so even on our own.
