Black Hole

Those of you worried about the size of the hole in the ground shouldn't be. Cliffs is planning to produce 400 to 800,000 t of ferrochrome which requires up to 1.6 million tonnes of ore. 1.6 million tonnes of ore at about a 4 density occupies 40,000 cu. meters. Typical mining benches are 15m high so the area needed is 26,000 sq meters, about the size of one super Walmart each year. Now that is only the ore, the problematic piece is how much waste needs to be moved to get at the ore. The value of the ore is very high but the cost of moving waste can only be tolerated to a certain level before you start evaluating the more expensive but more selective underground methods possible. The 43-101 will tell all. However, it will take many many years before the hole will be as large as the ones referenced in previous posts. But it will be black!!!!
