We have tons of (slag) up here. We used to use it for driveways. I don't think you are allowed anymore because of the leaching out. Slag looks like small, sharp, black shiny pieces of stone. They pile it high and long in places in Sudbury, and then grass it to hold it down. We also have a 1200 foot stack that blows the sulpher East. (Ouch).
Before, you could see the the grey sulpher rolling in from Sudbury, and you could taste it as well. We lost a lot of green. We were barren. Now, we are green, our lakes are beautiful, and trees have come back. It took a lot of planting, and nurturing. The byproduct of mining can be very ugly. Hopefully, we are doing better.
