Everybody has their favourite tools/guides/rule of thumb/etc. If it works great. My favourite is to look for companies with small floats with low share prices so that if there is positive new it has a large impact on the stock price.

Share price works great if you are focused on a specific stock and its rate of gain. But to make value comparisons across companies I look at market cap so that I'm looking at something that at least resembles an apple to apple comparison.

Use whatever works for you.
