YOUR editorial of Jan. 22 (In the Absence of Direction) was an excellent one that spoke the truth. Likewise, the unsigned letter which appeared Jan. 23 (Government Using Companies As Pawns To Avoid Treaty Compliance). When is the Ontario government going to act strongly and properly and represent all its citizens, including the aboriginals?
Ontario can‘t buy off the problems like it did when it bought off Platinex for $5 million or the problem with Dana Chatwell and Dave Brown in Caledonia who were bought out for something less than $7 million. I don‘t think the province will be able to buy out the other problem arising out of the Caledonia issue which now involves OPP Commissioner Julian Fantino and the allegations made by Gary McHale.
The province must act with integrity and purpose for the good of our society.
The area near Marten Falls in the Ring of Fire has the possibility of containing the largest chromite deposits in all of North America. Imagine the benefit to Northern Ontario, to our city and our province if this would come to pass and a world-class mine came into existence. The Government of Ontario must not let any small group or any municipality prevent this possibility. Set the rules and guidelines. Ensure the law is obeyed while the possibility is being explored.
