Resource estimates are done to give confidence to investors in their stock and to facilitate future financings. I do not want to invest if there is not sufficient resource backing, or confident potential of such, for my investment.

Who wants to invest in a stock where the future potential is 'pumped'. I say pumped because without an independent authority confirming a stock's assets any claims by the company, or it's supporters, are on the whole regarded as purely hypothetical.
So an interim estimate is needed.
In most cases these are not a waste of money but an attempt to maximize return on effort and results.

As for me I do not expect another trippling in the resource. That is too much to expect and we can not rely on past results, they rarely happen and when they do it is in the very early exploration stages.
I would be most pleased with anything close to a doubling.
