The sun may be shining but not on the places where Queen's Park heckling has headed, where the level of debate has descended below the belt yet again.

Premier Dalton McGuinty may be indirectly to blame for some of the more sophomoric excesses, as his constant promotion of new mining opportunities in northwestern Ontario's so-called Ring of Fire has inspired more bum jokes than the recent visit of a 40-foot colon to Queen's Park.

"What I know for sure is somebody should dump some cold water on that little ring of fire across the way," New Democratic Party Leader Andrea Horwath said, after Finance Minister Dwight Duncan got a little hot under the collar on Tuesday.

Peter Shurman, from the Progressive Conservative caucus, picked up the theme Wednesday as he questioned Michael Gravelle, the minister of northern development, mines and forestry.

"When it comes to northern Ontario, you're still sitting on your proverbial 'ring of fire,'" Shurman thundered.
