There has been an ongoing discussion on this forum as to whether and when Noront should move from the TSE Venture Exchange to the main TSE. Often, posters have referred to the TSE as the "big board".
However, this appears to be creating some confusion. The New York Stock Exchange has traditionally been known as the "Big Board". This is a longstanding usage, particularly in the USA. So, for Canadians to call the TSE the "big board" it opens up the door to confusion. Small point maybe, but we need to be clear which exchange we are actually talking about.
Many times over the years I have seen references, not just in financial papers but also in novels, etc to the "Big Board" and it has always been clear it was the New York Stock Exchange which was meant. And of course, a number of larger Canadian public corporations are inter-listed on the NYSE and the TSE, so it is not just an arcane point.
Best, O.F.
