The Bank of Canada is about to put the final touch on Mr. Irwin's comments. There are good reasons why Vale and Xstrata do not see longer term goodwill building worthwhile. It is becoming "high cost" for base metals, which is why the pm component has become more significant than it would have been to attracting majors.
