Noront Resources Ltd. is a Canadian exploration-stage resource company. It is currently focused on its McFauld's Lake Project, an area known as the Ring of Fire (“RoF”) an emerging multi-metals district in the James Bay Lowlands of Northern Ontario. Within 30 months Noront has made seven significant discoveries including the high-grade Eagle’s Nest nickel, copper, PGE deposit which is now estimated to be approximately 10-15 million tonnes and includes a 43 101 resource technical report; and the high-grade Blackbird chromite deposit, which is the only North American chromite deposit with a NI 43 101 resource technical report. Other discoveries include the Thunderbird vanadium occurrence and the recent Triple J gold zone. All discoveries are within a 10-12-kilometre radius and can be mined with a shared infrastructure.
Located approximately 190 kilometers north of the Albany River and 240 kilometers west of James Bay,
the Ring of Fire, an area rich in minerals and metals, forms a large horseshoe, open to the west. For map reference purposes, it is also referred to as McFauld’s Lake. Noront refers to its project area as the McFaulds Lake Project. Noront is the dominant landholder at the Ring of Fire, controlling 100% of approximately 11,200 square kilometres and currently has two joint ventures in the RoF. The Company continues to delineate and prove up its discoveries with NI-43-101 technical and economic reports and an aggressive, well-funded drill plan for 2010.
In August 2007, Noront intersected 47.4 metres averaging 5.9% nickel, 3.1% copper, 2.9 g/t of platinum,
9.8 g/t of palladium, 0.6 g/t gold and 8.5 g/t silver. This discovery sparked a staking rush in the RoF area and has subsequently brought worldwide attention to the multi-metals discoveries which have been made by Noront. Several months later, Noront announced the discovery of a second nickel-copper massive sulphide occurrence, two kilometers southwest of the Eagle’s Nest deposit, named Eagle Two. Later that year, the company made two high-grade chromite discoveries known as Blackbird One and Blackbird Two, (now combined and referred to as Blackbird Chromite Deposit); chromite ore and its by-product, ferrochrome is in high demand in the growing metallurgic market in China. Noront also recently acquired 4.5 percent of the shares of Freewest Resources, which has a large chromite holding in the RoF. Noront has been drill-testing other high-priority geophysical targets in the area and is developing two additional sites: AT12 with nickel-copper-PGE deposits and Triple J, where gold has been intersected and more results are expected.
Noront’s projects are the most advanced projects in the Ring of Fire. Feasibility studies should be completed on the Eagle and Blackbird (chromite) deposits by first quarter 2011. Due to the different complexities of the two types of deposits, Noront believes the Eagle’s Nest deposits could be put into production by the first quarter of 2016 while the chromite development is expected to take more time. Noront CEO Wes Hanson notes, “We are confident of the schedules that we are proposing for the nickel copper projects and at the same time we intend to work diligently on developing the more complex chromite projects. This area will require significant investments in infrastructure, and we would be open to discussions with a major partner from China who would consider assisting us in developing the project area and perhaps securing an off-take of materials through a partnership agreement.”
The Noront team is headed by President and CEO Wes Hanson, who has a geology background and 25 years experience in the mining industry, primarily in senior positions. Mr. Semple, who serves as COO, is a professional engineer with 26 years in the mining industry has focused on feasibility studies, project development, and operations of precious and base metals deposits. Jeremy Niemi, Vice President of Geology, has over 13 years experience in the gold and base metals mining/resource industry, both at corporate and operational levels. Joanne Jobin, Vice President of Corporate Communication has over
25 years experience in corporate affairs and investor relations within the mining industry. Chief Glenn Nolan of the Missanabie Cree First Nation is an expert on relations and collaboration between the mining industry and Aboriginal communities in Canada and internationally; he serves as the Vice President of Aboriginal Affairs to the Noront team. James Atkinson is Noront’s Exploration Manager with over 30 years of managerial and mining experience.
Noront is positioning itself to become Canada's next major mining company with a mission to safely and efficiently discover, develop, and extract Canada's mineral resources. They have a deep commitment to First Nations peoples and to the environment. Noront (NOT) is traded on the Toronto Venture Exchange. It has 160,252, 283 fully diluted shares and a working capital of C$25 million.
