Quite to the contrary, if news was expected to be coming then they would not dare to drop it this low at this time. They dare because they are confident that news is at least days away.

The company will not use a halt to release news because that would leave all the shorters etc. out in the cold. That is if you assume that management is trying to be friends with their majority holders.
