"Certainly there is more than adequate indication out there that SPs are being manipulated, but still...this defies reason"
As I sit back and review all the discussions about manipulation (which I don't necessarily refute, but do look at with a bit of scepticism), I wonder why. Why would anyone have to put a huge effort into controlling the SP?
I have put a bit of extra effort into studying our SP movement over the last few days. If I was a buyer, which is the only explanation for wanting to control the SP, I have no need to put any effort into it. I simply have to decide my buying price, put my bid in and wait. There seems an unending number of sellers that will eventually meet my price. Look at this morning for example; A couple of buyers have decided they want in. A simple analysis of level 2 tells them they should sit back with a lowball bid and just wait for the sellers, and sure enough they come, just like sheep. If these sheep could understand what they had, they simply have to refuse to come down, and before the day was out the buyers would come to them. If that was to happen, todays buying would have driven the SP to 1.30, rather than 1.10.
There have been a quarter mill shares traded today by folks who are prepared to give them away. Until this stops there will be no upward movement, nor any need to manipulate.
Best regards
