The little tournament that grew....wow !!
I asked Wes Hansen a few times if he could make it to the event, as a special guest. He informed me on each occasion that he had a family committment in the evening and wouldn't be able to attend. He graciously offered up prizes though, with each golfer getting two Black Golf Balls (good balls too), with the Noront logo on them. Collector items to be sure. I doubt very much that anyone used these balls all day (or night, hah !).
But after the tournament ended and we were all sitting outside, sipping on golden & red beverages, as I was doing the scoring.....Shakey shouts to me, Hey Ken, turn around !
To my surprise and sheer enjoyment, there was Wes Hansen ! Wow, that topped off the day for me. It just couldn't get any better. Well actually, it did. Shortly after that that, Jim Voisin sank the winning playoff putt for Team Strato.
I went inside the dining room to check on things and was then greeted by Paul Semple, COO of NOT. At that point, I'm thinking, who's next ! Incredible. For an event that at one point, looked like it might not come together, turned into the most enjoyable ROF Classic dinner events yet.
Unfortunately, Wes & Paul could not stay for dinner, but Wes asked me if I'd like him to say a few words to the dinner guests. Are you kidding ? Of course, I said !! And thank you for showing up here, with other committents on your schedule for the evening.
So Wes came up and spoke to the group at dinner. He was positive about the recent feasibility studies done at Eagle One. He was positive about the future of Noront. He thanked all of us for our support and just left a good impression on everyone in attendance.
Thanks to Wes & Paul for the surprise visit and for taking the time to speak with us.
Then, I asked George from Agoracom to come up and say a few words. George spoke with his heart, saying that this event, this gathering of Agoracom members was what he envisioned when he started Agoracom. A strong group of people who not only post and PM, but who also meet in person and develop lasting friendships. Without question, George has definitely achieved that, with flying colours.
I considered the entertainment I put together for the evening to be first class. I was not disappointed in the least and received numerous compliments on the jazz quartet of the 17 year old award winning jazz students. They were fantastic ! The string bass player is the daughter of a very good friend of mine and they graciously accepted to play, just for dinner. They could've got a mininum of $800 anywhere else. A very big thank to the Marika Galea Quartet !
The entertainment droppe doff significantly after that, with my rather, ahem rough Johnny Cash rendition of the song, Ring Of Fire. In fairness to me, the microphone was horrendously awful and maybe I shouldn't have taped my own mining humour-type lyrics to the guitar..... But it was fun and I think the guests liked the idea of me doing it, so for those of you who weren't there, here were my lyrics to the song.
(Verse 1) Nickel, is a lovely thing / When you find it, in a Ring
And we found gold & platinum / And something called, Chromium.
(Chorus) We drilled down, into the Ring Of Fire
We drilled down, dip, down, and the grades kept getting higher
And the drill turns, turns, in the Ring Of Fire, the Ring Of Fire
(Verse 2) Markets, are a funny thing / You never know, what they'll bring
We thought we'd all be filthy rich / Well not just yet, ain't life a bitch
(chorus)
(Verse 3) Takeovers, are a funny thing / You never know, what they'll bring
And when it's time, back up the trucks / But don't wake me, til 20 bucks.
(Chorus) We drilled down, into the Ring Of Fire
We drilled down dip down, and the grades kept getting higher
And the drill turns, turns, in the Ring Of Fire, the Ring of Fire, the Ring of Fire.
