Much has been written on this forum as well as others that I have had the privelege to be part of, about what it is going to take to get the FN onside, but perhaps more of us should adhere to the old adage concerning a swamp and alligators.
Does our present situation result from the actions or inaction of local FN? And if so what can Noront do to alleviate this problem? Let's go back 2 years and review the situation from that angle.
In the summer of 2009, Marten Falls Indian band embarked on a project to construct an airfield at Mcfaulds Lake. This project had the full cooperation of all involved companies at the time, and received considerable logistic support to support this effort from both NOT and FWR, who were the most prominent explorers in the area. The intention was that upon completion, Marten Falls logistics (controlled by MFIB), would then supply the necessary logistics to local explorers from a base set up at this airfield. However, on completion of the first landing at this new airfield, the Ontario gov't shut it down. This airstrip and associated facilities was intended to supply lodging and other logistic support for the present KWG/CLF programs.
The present situation that is feeding the unrest, arises because the Marten Falls program was shut down through gov't (interference???) and their ability to benefit from local exploration was compromised.
There really is no need to offer them incentives such as share options or other charity. It is necessary, though, for them to have the opportunity to benefit in ways such as this aforementioned airstrip would have provided.
Their dissatisfaction with the status quo may seem directed at the exploration companies in the area, or more specifically at KWG/CLF, but in reality the solution rests with the (present?) government. If they could be forced to take some affirmative action, other than appointing someone to study it, we would all benefit. Until they do, anything the individual companies can offer is a waste of effort.
Best regards
