NI 43-101 Update (September 2012): 11.1 Mt @ 1.68% Ni, 0.87% Cu, 0.89 gpt Pt and 3.09 gpt Pd and 0.18 gpt Au (Proven & Probable Reserves) / 8.9 Mt @ 1.10% Ni, 1.14% Cu, 1.16 gpt Pt and 3.49 gpt Pd and 0.30 gpt Au (Inferred Resource)
The project can be increased in size if needed.
Ontario Power Generation Inc. (OPG) is proposing to develop approximately 100 megawatts of renewable hydroelectric power through the construction of two generating stations on the Little Jackfish River (Proposed Undertaking).
The location of the Proposed Undertaking is the Little Jackfish River, which flows south from the Ogoki Reservoir into Lake Nipigon, about two hundred kilometres northeast of Thunder Bay. Refer to the Notices section of this website for a map of the project location.
The Proposed Undertaking would consist of two generating stations. A smaller upper site would be located at the outlet of Moule Lake. The larger, lower site would be located approximately 16 kilometres downstream in the vicinity of the forest access road bridge. Each generating station will include a dam with a water intake and by-pass structures, powerhouse and tailrace channel. This conceptual development scheme has been carefully developed in order to minimize the requirement for inundation or flooding.
Associated facilities include access roads, borrow areas for construction materials and a large temporary construction camp.
Transmission facilities to connect the Proposed Undertaking to the provincial grid will be required. A separate environmental assessment process will be undertaken by the transmission company.
As of April 21, 2009 OPG is moving from Phase 1 - Project Concept to Phase 2 - Project Definition of the planning process set out under the Class Environmental Assessment for Waterpower Projects.
A detailed Project Description is being prepared and will be released for feedback in the near future.
Field studies are being conducted in the study area to support the environmental assessment and technical feasibility of the proposed undertaking. OPG will be initiating formal consultation and engagement activities later this year and notices announcing public open houses will be published at a later date. In addition, various other methods of notification, consultation and engagement will be carried out during the environmental assessment and approvals process.
In order to facilitate communication and the distribution of project information, OPG is building a stakeholder list. Please see the contacts section of this web site to add your name to the stakeholder list in order to receive regular updates about the project.
OPG welcomes your input about the proposed undertaking. Bringing together all relevant viewpoints at the earliest opportunity in the planning of this project is more likely to ensure that all potential concerns and issues are considered during the environmental assessment process.
