Northwest prospectors recognize their best

By: Northern Ontario Business staff

The Northwestern Ontario Prospectors Assocation honoured its own at its annual awards in Thunder Bay, April 5.

Winning Lifetime Achievement Awards were four prominent prospectors from the region: Beardmore's Robert Cote, Dryden's Sherridon Johnson and the late Ray Oja of Thunder Bay and Edward Onabigon of Pic Mobert First Nation.

Prospector Dave Christianson of Thunder Bay was the recipient of the Dan Calvert Distinguished Service Award.

Lakehead University's Victoria Stinson, a masters student in the geology department, took home the Bernie Schnieders Memorial Award.

Two companies won the 2010 Developer of the Year Award.

Montreal's Osisko Hammond Reef Gold was recognized for the development of the project of the same name, north of Atikokan.

Toronto's Noront Resources was honoured for their Eagle's Nest base metal project in the Ring of Fire in the James Bay lowlands.

The exploration team at Goldcorp took home the Bernie Schnieders Discovery of the Year Award for their high-grade Lynx Zone at the Musselwhite Mine, 500 kilometres north of Thunder Bay.
