Hi CT.
I see that Noront is an 'associate member' (non-voting), along with BHP... (Glencore and Delachaux, the 'banquiers', are 'associate members' as well.)
Interesting to see Xstrata (Alloys Division) as a voting 'ordinary member', together with a welcomed "new member", ...tadam... Cliffs Natural Resources !!! Baosteel is also on the same 'ordinary members' list, but I do not see any other non-asian big player (indian Tata Steel is there though).
From the site's info, there are 3 Membership Categories:
- Ordinary Membership: producers and processors of chromium containing materials.
- Associate Membership: trading companies and trade associations having an interest in chromium.
- Affiliate Membership: end-users and providers having an interest in chromium.
I conclude that Xstrata, Cliffs and Baosteel are producers, so key players in the field, more likely to be potential M&A bidders to ferro-chrome explorers, while BHP may be seen to having only "an interest in chromium" which I suspect is a bit under the truth... I suspect BHP to have a spy or two around northern Quebec and Ontario at this time. I do not see ArcelorMittal on the lists...
And there are a couple of cocktails and lunches and dinners and after-hours on and off the Program... I'd love to be there and observe who of the boys from Cliffs, Noront and Baosteel will offer a drink and a smile to who... The Eagle, the Beaver and the Dragon talking about the Ring of Fire down under...
