The municipality of Greenstone has hired a former provincial minister of Health and Long-Term Care to help bring the Ring of Fire processing facility to that area. Former Ontario Liberal Party member, cabinet minister and Toronto mayoral candidate George Smitherman’s consulting firm, G&G Solutions, will be in charge of communicating the benefits of the Greenstone region to the province and Cliffs Natural Resources. Smitherman says he’s excited to be working on a “made in Greenstone” solution for processing the massive amounts of ore from the future mining development. Greenstone officials say the siting of the smelter is an extremely important opportunity for the municipality, along with First Nations in that area.
