"Moe Levegne's plan to build power generating plants on the northern rivers is an interesting concept but it adds another delay in getting the project started."
Someone here recently suggested damming the Albany at approximately the point where a road/ rail would cross it. At that point the river is about 2 km across. To dam a river sufficiently to provide the foot pounds of pressure that would be required to drive the turbines would require raising the water level by at least 25 meters. To raise the water level of the Albany river that much at any point in the area would require flooding an area of several hundred thousand sq km.
Simply not feasible.
There are, I believe, three dams in Northern Manitoba, that were built to provide power to the Smelters at Flin Flon and Thompson. Both of these smelters are coming out of service in the next few years. If it was feasible to construct a power line from there to the area, all the smaller communities along the way would have their power problems solved, as well as provide all the power necessary for ROF needs, whether including a smelter or not.
Best regards
