"On one hand you have CLF and KWG saying what they want...and they together are the big corporate cats that gov't likes to align with and then there is NOT, the FN and green groups who represent more of the grass roots interests. If these groups dig their heals in things could slow down. We'll just have to wait and see"
There you go again, Sum. Sometimes I think you are just baiting me with a post like this, but I totally disagree.
CLF has not said what they want, other than an offhand remark that a railroad will be necessary at some time, and that a road of some sort is probably a prerequisite. Their official response is due in September some time. The simple fact is that they need acces to the area long before the railroad is built, in order to have material ready for shipping on it when it is ready
KWG is actively working towards a rail link. If and when it is approved they have the upper hand in that respect. A road built prior to that will not detract from the need for a railroad. We are not talking about a spur line that will be in operation for 15-20 years. with the mineralization that we know is in the area, this line will operate for generations, and an existing road will, in no way, detract from the need for it.
The only concept that will get Gov't support is one that takes the needs of local communities into consideration.
What we see here is a concept that was advanced by Noront, to upgrade a winter access trail into a full blown all weather road. This now has the support of local communities in it's path. It is going to be very unpopular for CLF to come out with a plan that is counter to the proposal as it stands. If they do, they will never get the support needed to go some other route. If we do get their support, it will likely be a short wait for announcements from the Gov't of the day, particularly once UC comes out with their drill results later this month.
