Summary of Principal Functions:
The role is required to understand and interpret the technical, fiscal, legal, commercial, economic, community and corporate drivers that impact upon creating value through discovery.
The role plans for the long term; creating position for future success by building and developing effective teams, securing government and community agreements that will permit and support exploration long into the future and by introducing technologies or practices that will create and sustain competitive advantage
Preparing and managing exploration budgets to ensure effective allocation of company funds to optimize the delivery of a discovery.
Managing the application of appropriate exploration techniques and technology (e.g., geophysics, geochemistry, sampling, remote sensing, resource modeling, drilling) over the entire range of commodities and at all stages of the discovery process.
Managing and monitoring the interpretation geological data/information and establishing systems to capture the value of these data into the future to create long term competitive advantage.
Leading and integrating multi-functional teams, technical, commercial, HSEC, HR, logistics, finance towards the common goal of Discovery within the context of:
· Multiple commercial and legal frameworks
· Multiple time zones, physical landscapes
· Multiple languages, cultural and social frameworks
Leading the team through the continuum of change that characterizes the evolution of exploration programs, multiple environments of work and changing corporate strategy and initiatives by understanding the principles and impact of these changes, and acting accordingly.
Specific Responsibilities:
Requires strong analytical skills and application of acquired technical experience in multi-commodity/multi-country situations, cultures, in complicated or novel and changing/dynamic situations. Expected to filter, analyze and validate complex and dynamic material. Advanced judgment/ability to assess and manage risk.
Leading and managing the North American Exploration team.
Able to understand and address problems ranging over:
· Commercial applications
· Legislative and mineral rights
· Community agreements and issues
· Environmental issues
· Technical problems - structuring solutions understanding the problem
· Problem prediction
§Networking across other CNR groups to share problems and solutions.
Education Needed:
Bachelor's degree required with graduate qualifications in Geosciences or related area preferred.
Registration, or eligibility to register, with globally recognized professional geoscientist organization.
Experience Needed:
15+ years experience in an exploration/geosciences role.
Experience managing large, complex projects including start-up and business impact analysis.
