My answer is Noront's geologists use them.

Unfortunately I cannot paste the darn PDF but you can look it up.

It is the Micon National Instrument Technical report, preliminary assessment that was done for Noront and had a signing date of Oct. 22, 2010.

IF you go to page 72 of 145 you shall see these words written.

"A Niton XFR hand analyzer is used by the geologist to assist with the estimation of metal content...."

So, when it comes out of the ground...we know...then and there.
