Hey Kids,
I had the opportunity to speak to the manager of corporate communications at Noront today. She assured me that there is lots going on. I told her that sitting on this side of the fence I see that this is such a hugh opportunity for Canada to forge ahead out of a tough economic time and create jobs and money flow etc. etc. etc....it is hard to believe that the government isn't jumping all over this and moving the project forward. I got the impression that management at Noront can't believe it either.
She said the feasibility study should be release in 4 to 6 weeks or so and that should make a difference.
She educated me a little about the N/S road vs. the E/W road which I didn't really understand. Did you know the N/S road that Cliff wants only affects 2 communities and crosses 3 rivers (guess that means extra costs for bridges). Noront wants the E/W road which will benefit 6 communities. Sure hope I've got this correct. I'm sure there is more to it than that but I found this much interesting. I'm just starved for any Noronto information.
She also mentiond that Noront has very good communication going on with the FN, they just need to get the govn't on side and things should move forward.
I asked about a timeline: permits this year, construction beginning in 2013 and production beginning in 2016.
Regards, Tequila Rose
