Yes I also think that you've made some interesting connections Babjak. I am not impressed by the OTP funds investment of $122million in Rio Tinto however. A quick calculation demonstrates that this amounts to just over 1/10 of 1 per cent of their portfolio. To me this amount would be very underweight percentagewise, given that Rio Tinto is the world's 47th largest company by market cap. For example, Rio Tinto is a heavyweight on the FTSE 100 Index at ~4.3% , and the FTSE 100 Index "accounts for 7.8% of the world’s equity market capitalisation" , so in my estimate it would be difficult to develop a fund where Rio Tinto represents such a small position. I am very impressed however that the OTP fund is that large ($117 Bilion). If it was a corporation it would also likely be in the world's top 50 by market cap...surely a force to be reckoned with, and one that perhaps could be an equal investment partner with the likes of a Rio Tinto.
