Province Announces Commitment To Ring Of Fire

By CKDR News - November 8th, 2013 - 9:23am

The Provincial Government remains committed to the Ring of Fire development in the Far North.
Minister of Northern Development and Mines Michael Gravelle issued a statement today, saying that they will take action to ensure strategic infrastructure development for the region.
The plan also includes:
- a regional process with the Chiefs of the Matawa Tribal Council, lead by former Justice Frank Iacobucci and Bob Rae
- capacity building to make sure people have the training and skills required to take advantage of the benefits the region will bring
- community readiness initiatives in order to support communities as they become vital transportation hubs
- work with interested companies to show progress
He goes on to say that they will be moving forward with the creation of a development corporation which will bring First Nations, mining companies along with Provincial and Federal partners together.
Gravelle says they will determine infrastructure needs and financing to support the development.
He adds that the project is too important.
The provincial government has come under fire as of recently for not getting the ball rolling on the project.
Gravelle says while they remain committed, they need the Federal government to get on board as well.
