IF you are looking at moving shares from your RRSP to a TFSA ---- Put your TFSA contribution into your TFSA account as cash. Then phone your broker/brokerage and have them exchange/switch cash from your TFSA account dollars for shares in your RRSP and have them put the NOT shares in your TFSA. The NOT shares are deemed to have been disposed of while in the RRSP account at market value and enter your TFSA at the new market value book value. Neither the TFSA or the RRSP have capital gains/losses so there is no further tax implications. If the NOT shares are coming from a taxable trading account to a TFSA the contribution is valued at the market price of when the transfer occurs. The shares are deemed to have been disposed of in the trading account and trigger gain or loss depending on your circumstances. As in all thing taxes ... CONSULT a tax accountant before executing your tax strategy. After is to late!
