KDMA conference begins Written by Brenden Harris on Friday, 07 February 2014

Mayor Dave Canfield says he's looking forward to learning more about Noront Resources.

Representatives from across the Kenora District are gathered in Pickle Lake, for the Kenora District Municipal Association conference. The three day conference continues in Sunday, and the main topics will be forestry, mining and tourism. Kenora Mayor Dave Canfield says one of the things he's looking forward to most is a presentation on mining. "There's a big slate of events. We have a tourism panel, a forestry panel and a mining panel. We actually have somebody speaking to us from Noront Resources. It's probably the mine that's the closes to any type of production in the Ring of Fire area," he said."Of course, they're just northeast of Pickle Lake. It's a really good fit. We're looking forward to it, I know Mayor Roy Hoffman from Pickle is really looking forward to having everybody out there. It doesn't happen that often for Pickle Lake, so it's going to be good for them," he said.Canfield previously noted he's also looking forward to discussing tourism with the other municipalities in the region. He's hoping to hear how communities and outfitters across the region have changed the way they do business, following a turn towards a tourism based economy. - See more at: http://www.kenoraonline.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=7959&Itemid=160#sthash.DdhrOATz.dpuf
