Partnerships

We have heard that partnerships with First Nation peoples in the Ring of Fire will be required for developement to proceed. Last year Manitoba Hydro opened the Wuskwatim Generating Station in northern Manitoba. It is a true partnership with the First Nation having been involved in the planning, development and ownership of this project.

Here is a video that summarizes the processes that took place. It is 25 minutes long but in it there are many things that will be very similar to the R.O.F. developement. Some that I can remember include pre project training programs to ensure aboriginal employment, building the access road, a camp for the workers, cultural awareness programs and ceremonies to recognize milestones reached. Like I said, 25 minutes but I enjoyed it. It allowed me to get my head around some of the issues that Noront has been addressing to date and those still to be faced.
