To Ed:--
"Every thing was fine with the enforcement by police during FN protests but when a native was shot by a police sharp shooter and the media made the situation into an embarrassment to the then Harris government, Harris told police to treat them with kids gloves and no shooting without expressed permission from the top.
That is how I remember the incident."
Edgy :- with respect to your faulty Caledonia memory and typical blame it on Harris mantra.
Harris left office in 2002, replaced by liberal premier McGinty.
McGinty appointed ont justice Mashall in 2005 and produced warrants which OPP served. Six Nations/Mohawks sued the the liberal led government in objection to the legal purchase of the disputed housing development. It was feb 26/2006 when the Mohawks began the land occupation, which continues to this day.
A McGinty called court investigation of the Algonquin park FN occupation, and unauthorized OPP police shooting of Dudley George, exonerated Harris's of OPP interference. At that time Harris' only behaviour was imprudently shooting off his mouth, at that time.
The McGinty inspired court action, three years after Harris left office, was clearly intended to deflect his responsibility for his liberal inaction and responsibility for Caledonia.
Ontario taxpayers have to date spent $64M in keeping the FN occupation of Caladonia properties.
Harris had nothing to do with Caledonia. (Kind of reminds one of the Gas plant McGinty moves, but on a much smaller coverup scale).
Ever since these law breaking FN acts , all subsequent ontario FN blockades , occupations and law FN lawbreaking has never been charged.
In McGintys second term he created Self administered FN police for FN territories.
OPP cannot enter any Land (disputed or legal)to enforce the law.
All of the above is on Liberal MCGinty watch, and now continued by McGinty mentored Wynne.
Blaming everything on Harris 13 years after he left office is a convenient excuse/lie to cover the liberal fear of , and inactions in moving the ROF development forward .
It'sliberal political cowardice and managerial incompetence.
Not Harris, and not Harper, and not OT.
