Yesterday CBC radio Thunder Bay interviewed a female member from the Peawanuck Band. She claims that the land use planning is incomplete because the traditional land use of the Peawanuck Band has not been taken into consideration and that her grandfather travelled into that area. Peawanuck will likely also lay claim to the Franklin wreck?
The proposed Hydro line to Pickle Lake was in its final planning stages until another native band came along and wants to be part of a different group that will use a different route so it seems we are back to square one as far as the line to Pickle goes.
You will all recall when the ROF Secretariat was set up and given 45 million dollars and 4 people were named to the committee with 6 more to be added. Well the 6 more were never named and the committee has never met and who knows where the 45 million went. Now we have the Developement Corporation that sounds all to familiar.
Also many recall that the Liberals passed the Far North Act. Under that Act 50% of the north was to be protected from all developement. We are still waiting to find out what areas will be protected?
But fear not Gravelle and the Liberals will continue to tell us they are committed to the ROF.
