Excellent article by Stan Sudol!

It took businessmen like Ned Goodman and Stan Bharti to give the Laurentian School of Mining a big push in the way of funding. They both recognize that Sudbury is the mining capital of the world and that the place for mining education and research is in Sudbury at Laurentian University.

As Stan points out the Ontarion Geological Survey and the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines are both located in Sudbury adjacent to the campus of Laurentian University.

Add to that the fact that the mining survices and supply sector employs about 23,000 people in NE Ontario.

Good for Stan and David Robinson to push the liberal gov't to recognize Laurentian for what it is...the center for mining excellence and innovation.

Again getting the people and gov't in southern ontario to support such an initiative in Northern Ontario is an uphill battle.

Will the U of T and Queens easily give up their mining programs and agree to transfer their students and faculty to Laurentian? Likely not without a fight.

Would the students obtain a better education at Laurentain? They certainly would have access to more hands on experience and jobs.
