I have no idea what this upcoming Sept. 11 meeting is about.

"Bolstered by the new partnership with her Quebec counterpart, Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne is eyeing Quebec’s abundant hydro power to light up Northern Ontario’s Ring of Fire development and reinvigorate talks for a national energy strategy.

She and Quebec Premier Philippe Couillard, both rookie premiers with majority mandates, recently forged a central Canadian alliance to co-operate on issues and bring prosperity back to their provinces.

In addition, their new alliance calls for potentially increasing electricity trade between the two provinces. Northern Ontario is in dire need of infrastructure to help develop the Ring of Fire, which could provide thousands of jobs to the province and about $60-billion to its economy, according to the provincial government’s estimates.

“I am open to practical solutions,” Ms. Wynne said in the interview. “If we can find a way to get a great deal for Ontarians by increasing our capacity, by increasing our partnership with Quebec, then we’ll look at that.”

REMINDER: Québec and Ontario Cabinet Ministers to Meet in Québec City on September 11

Québec and Ontario cabinet ministers will hold a joint cabinet meeting on September 11, 2015 in Québec City. The ministers will take stock of the work carried out since their previous meeting in November 2014 in Toronto and initiate new forms of collaboration.

Media representatives are invited to be present when the official photo of the cabinet ministers is taken at 8:20 a.m. and to attend a press conference summing up the event that Québec Premier Philippe Couillard and Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne will hold at 1:30 p.m. The morning session will be private.

The media will have the use of the Salle Hilton on the ground floor but will not be authorized to attend the discussions held during the morning.

Media representatives who wish to be present when the official photo is taken and to attend the press conference must confirm their presence as soon as possible by contacting Justine Vézina at 418-643-2001, ext. 8401 or by email (justine.vezina@mce.gouv.qc.ca).

Press cards will be required to gain admittance to the event. Anyone who is not registered on the media list will not be authorized to attend.
