Auminer...you mention: "The natives currently have no real need for mining."

=======================================================

How do you know what the "natives" want?

The chiefs and their helpers are very handsomely compensated.

They ..personally... do not need a job from mining....not with what they rake in...not to mention all the perks.

The elders do not want mining jobs....neither would my 78 yr old father, if you asked him.

How about hearing from the youth?? IF they are so happy, content to do nothing...why is there such a high drug, alcohol and suicide problem at these remote reserves??

Neskantaga's Chief Moonias...mentioned ...over 50% are addicted. Living in the middle of no where ...no road to get out....a life with no purpose...is not a recipe for happiness.

You mention De Beers and Attawapiskat...and their lack of change after so much De Beers money was funneled in.

Whose fault was that?

Answer : Chief Teresa Spence and her corrupt leadership.

http://www.republicofmining.com/2013/02/12/attawapiskat-leaders-out-of-their-mines-toronto-sun-editorial-february-8-2013/

De Beers has only deposited around $300 million into the band council’s coffers over five years – that’s $60 million per annum, or $50,000 per resident per year

De Beers purportedly signed what amounts to a non-disclosure clause with Chief Theresa Spence’s crew to not reveal what any of that $300 million is for, or how it is spent.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Clearly,...the De Beers money did not make its way to majority at the reserve ..who saw ..no benefit.

And this is the fault of???

FN leadership.

And the Gov't., for putting the duty to consult on the backs of the mining companies with no regulation or checks or balances.

This promotes corruption. We wait to see what Gravelle has in store for the changes to the mining act which is supposed to be out in the next week or so.
