“A survey assessing aboriginal Canadians perceptions of the mining industry” was released Nov. 2014 and published in the CIM Magazine Feb.2015 issue. “according to 500 randomly selected respondents living in remote communities, the overall perception of the industry is unfavourable”. In Ontario 45% had an unfavourable perception, 38% had a favourable one and 18% didn’t know. An interesting aspect to this survey is that “ aboriginals currently or formerly employed in the industry hold similar views to those outside it.”

The jurisdiction most favourable to mining was Nunavut with 59% favourable, and the least favourable was the Maritimes with only 27% in favour.
