Thunder Bay MPs weigh in on budget

The budget promised to extend the mining exploration tax credit passed its expiration date, which was this month, but there was no word on the Ring of Fire development. Hajdu said the Northwest shouldn’t be concerned about it.

“We are committed to working with Ontario when we are ready to move forward on that project,” she said. “Michael Gravelle and I have spoken a lot on the Ring of Fire and what needs to happen in order to get that moving. We agree that some of the things that we’re investing in in this budget (are) the foundational pieces that will help the Ring of Fire move forward.”

Those foundational piece include making sure there’s good broadband access to the Internet for rural communities, accessible roads and clean water. She said they want to make sure they have a workforce who is ready when the project starts.
