CHIEFS OF ONTARIO TO HOST 42nd ANNUAL ALL ONTARIO CHIEFS CONFERENCE IN THUNDER BAY THIS WEEK

Thunder Bay, ON (June 27, 2016) — On behalf of the Chiefs of Ontario, Regional Chief Isadore Day extends warm greetings to the Youth, Elders, Leadership and citizens participating in this week’s 42nd Annual All-Ontario Chiefs Conference (AOCC) hosted by the Independent First Nations, in the traditional territory of Fort William First Nation and the Robinson Superior Treaty.

“Since my election as Regional Chief last June, the past year has been extremely busy from traveling to communities across Ontario, to extensive orientation on my new leadership role, both provincially and at the national level with the Assembly of First Nations,” said Regional Chief Day. “I look forward to the rewarding work that will occur at this AOCC. I especially look forward to the leadership role our youth have taken. They are the future leaders and professionals who will continue to elevate our Peoples and secure our rightful place in the country. This will be a new era of reconciliation where we will build upon the vision of our youth and the strength and resilience of our Residential School Survivors.”

This year’s conference theme is Youth Inspired Action for a Strong Future and will begin with an address from the Ontario First Nations Young Peoples Council on opening day. Various provincial Ministers and government agencies will be on hand to meet with the chiefs throughout the three-day conference. Some of the highlights will include sector updates from Environment, Social Services, Justice, Education and Health and include information on energy and infrastructure, policing and climate change.

Each day will begin with a sunrise ceremony and end with reflections from youth and Elders.

“In making my pledge to the Chiefs in Assembly a year ago, I agreed to work toward implementing focus on rights, striving towards gender balance and overall quality of life, First Nation jurisdiction and sustainability, in an effort toward ‘Securing a Future for Our Children’. I have come to rely on and have full confidence in this assembly of Chiefs and First Nation experts and citizens to make this a reality. All success is due to your hard work and direction. Let us continue and succeed together,” said Regional Chief Day.

The Independent First Nations will host Chiefs, Dignitaries, Elders and Youth for a Special Event on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 in Thunder Bay at the Valhalla Inn, Scandinavia Rooms.

Wonder if this will be on Trudeau's agenda?
