A bit of clarification, because I am at the present moment in Europe and topic has my attention.
"On a side note, it is amazing that a small nation like Belgium could hold up a free trade agreement with Canada and Europe."
"Spot, it was not only Belgium."
Actually it was only southern Belgium, Wallonia of about three million french speaking people. Flanders is the northern part that did agree. Each of these regions has to agree ( essentially a veto) to any international contracts that Belgium makes. Wallonia is presently the poorer part of the country.
It is practically the same as our natives saying that they have to agree to RoF developments near their communities.
However as of today Wallonia has removed their objection after some additional conditions were granted. Looks like the Canada-EU agreement will be signed, probably in a week. (Rumour has it as soon as Trudeau can make it for the signing, before anyone else changes their mind, lol.)
Not all politicians sit in the dark and...
Now back to RofF and when will our agreements see daylight?
Cheers, Ed
