-looks to me like a strike mandate vote will be taking place around Feb.24.
-this will be used as grounds to liquidate which can be done very quickly

At our special general membership meetings we reported that the Union had a complaint in front of the OLRB (Ontario Labour Relations Board) and a motion before Judge Newbould. On February 2, 2017 the Union withdrew our complaint before the OLRB and the motion before Judge Newbould.
The withdrawals establishes that Local Union 2251 accepts the Company’s allegation that the Collective Agreement terminated on July 31, 2016.
To that end, the Union sent a letter to the Company stating that we propose meeting on February 7, 2017 to continue our negotiations and that we were in negotiations with the employer. We are meeting as suggested.
We are now subject to the provisions of Local Union By-law 32.
By-law 32 states:
“A strike vote shall be held either prior to the termination of the Collective Agreement, or upon breakdown of negotiations. The negotiating committee shall decide which vote shall be taken.”
Clearly, we now have to conduct a strike mandate vote. We are well beyond the termination date of the Collective Agreement and negotiations did not take place prior to the termination of the Collective Agreement.
To provide a negotiation update, the Union is scheduling Special Membership meetings at the Quattro Conference Centre on Thursday February 23, 2017. The meetings will be held at 9:30 am, 3:30 pm and 7:30 pm.
