A Few Words from Noront CEO Alan Coutts

Posted On June 19, 2017

Earlier this year, we did something very special in partnership with Marten Falls First Nation (MFFN). On April 12, together we signed an agreement that defines how the first mine in the Ring of Fire will be developed.

Chief Bruce Achneepineskum & Lawrence Baxter from MFFN with Steve Flewelling & Alan Coutts from Noront

This Exploration and Project Advancement Agreement serves several important purposes:

• It provides Marten Falls First Nation (MFFN) with compensation for work taking place on their traditional land.

It makes MFFN a shareholder of Noront Resources.

• It defines the discussions that will be used to negotiate a Pre-Development Agreement for the Eagle’s Nest nickel-copper-platinum-palladium mine.

Pre-Development negotiation is critical because it defines how we, as partners, will work together on important subjects like environmental assessment, job development, training, new business creation and financial participation.

Chief Bruce Achneepineskum describes our partnership as “a step towards a prosperous and stable future for both the youth and community of Marten Falls First Nation.” We were very pleased to have him attend our recent Annual Shareholder Meeting, where we talked about how we are going to move ahead on development in the Ring of Fire.

We are currently advancing a similar project agreement with Webequie First Nation, and look forward to having them join Marten Falls and Noront at the pre-development negotiating table.
