After taking control of Stelco, Alan Kestenbaum is not standing still. Kestenbaum, through Bedrock Industries, told local news that Algoma Steel Sault Ste. Marie was definitely on Bedrock’s radar screen. Bedrock plans to spend about C$250-million over the next five years on the plant but the early attention will be developing technology for heat recovery and electricity generation as well as transportation and logistics. There are no immediate plans to restart steel making at Hamilton but is looking to expand coating operations and coke making there.
