discussions made behind closed doors in regards to a fully developed draft agreement regarding the 20-year plan will be released by Quebec Hydro and Ontario Hydro in the coming weeks.

Ontario and Quebec are in the midst of working out a 20-year deal that would see Quebec provide Ontario with power.
The Ontario Energy Association has voiced their displeasure with current talks between the provinces on a proposed 20-year plan to have Quebec provide Ontario with 8 terawatt hours annually starting in 2018.
OEA President and CEO Vince Brescia says the fact discussions have been behind closed doors is disappointing, and the current talks lack a competitive process to involve other possible interested
Timmins-James Bay MPP Gilles Bisson says building a further connection to Quebec is a step forward, but the current cost issues for citizens will remain unsolved..
Bisson says the real issue of overproduction still remains unsolved.
A fully developed draft agreement regarding the 20-year plan will be released by Quebec Hydro and Ontario Hydro in the coming weeks.
It has been my opinion for the longest time that the Chromite smelter would be in Timmins.
I mentioned already that the copper smelter closed down in 2011…and for this reason permitting for another smelter would be …easier. There is also the issue of having skilled people close by which Timmins has. Kidd Creek was scheduled to close 2020 and now it’s 2022 and ..the economy in Timmins will be hit hard and in need of a boost.
Since…Alan Coutts is mentioning a smelter decision by the end of the year…the weeks away of this Quebec-Ontario Hydro thing is ..interesting.

he eight First Nation communities of the Mushkegowuk Council in Ontario’s Far North are proposing a rail, energy and seaport infrastructure corridor connecting the province’s massive Ring of Fire chromium deposits to James Bay.
The idea is still in the very earliest stage of development, and hinges on importing cheap electricity from Quebec on a First Nation-owned grid free from having to charge Ontario’s much higher regulated electricity rates.
Three of the Mushkegowuk Council’s member First Nations are already in the electrical transmission business as owners of Five Nations Energy Inc.’s 270-kilometre Western James Bay Transmission Line, which runs from Moosonee to Attawapiskat and supplies energy to De Beers’ Victor Mine.
The proposed infrastructure corridor would include a seasonal seaport on James Bay, a transmission line to the Ring of Fire and an electrified rail line.
The transmission line would also be extended to supply electricity to the isolated Matawa First Nations most immediately affected by the Ring of Fire development and currently dependent on diesel power.
Folks, I want you to think about that sentence…….. for minute.
Did you ever wonder why…..you saw the east west ROF reserves not shown as being part of the wataypower Environmenat Assessment?????????
I guess if you already agreed to getting it from Five Nations Energy…owned by Muskegowuk….you wouldn’t need to sign up with watay.
Let’s go back to weeks away for this Ontario Hydro-Quebec Hydro news which was said 2 weeks
…didn’t Mushkegowuk propose providing some help to the “cost issue” … … importing cheap electricity from Quebec on a First Nation-owned grid free from having to charge Ontario’s much higher regulated electricity rates.

Along with that, Martin said he is excited about the prospect of Five Nations Energy buying up huge blocks of cheap energy from Hydro Quebec.
"And we're now talking to Hydro Quebec about bringing in one thousand megawatts of power. It means we can sell the 300 megawatts that Timmins would require if they are to have a processing plant for their Ring of Fire project," he said.
"This is very exciting stuff for us. It explores the whole notion of we can develop the North together, but this time the First Nations are going to take a lead in it. And that is a big issue.”
Ontario Hydro is talking about getting 8 terrawatts of power which is equal to Eight million megawatts.
So cutting a deal for a measly one thousand megawatts to pump though Five Nations Energy would be a good thing.
Do you remember this article?
“But in an oddly written news release, TGR proclaimed it had already reached a “landmark breakthrough” for the Ring of Fire with a proposal on the table to begin negotiations with Mushkegowuk on a potential partnership to finance, build and operate a 410-kilometre railway.
The release contained quotes pulled from a Timmins media report in which Martin spoke of TGR’s queries on leasing land from the council and a promise to give Mushkegowuk an ownership stake in the railway.”
TGR chairman Ron Dancey was quoted as saying his company had the capital to upgrade the Ontario Northland and promised competitive freight rates for the mining companies.
The company’s pronouncement was quickly dismissed by Northern Development and Mines Minister Michael Gravelle and Ontario Northland management

And not to forget the new ridings..
Ontario’s north is set to get two more seats in time for next year’s provincial election, one of which would be a primarily Indigenous riding.
The Liberal government will introduce legislation in the fall to implement two new ridings called Kiiwetinoong and Mushkegowuk,
If you open this link and scroll down towards the end and look at appendix A you’ll see the new recommended territories..
