At 104k per house I can see why the feds/prov slipped us this little announcement on a long weekend.....thought this response was pretty polite.

Your letters: Internet is barely ‘high speed’ in Southern Ontario

Sun., Oct. 8, 2017

Sparsely populated Ring of Fire zone to get high-speed internet at cost of $67.1M to taxpayers, Oct. 6

Let me see if I understand this correctly: People in remote northern communities, some without even road access, far from any town or city, are going to get high-speed internet. Meanwhile, I, along with 70 other homes here in Whitby, can’t even get internet speeds that approach dial-up! It’s not like we can switch from Bell to the competition; cable and line-of-sight services are not available in our neighbourhood.

So, I’d like to caution those lucky souls in Northern Ontario: Pray that Bell Canada isn’t your service provider, or else you’ll suffer the same fate as us “remote” city dwellers.

Now, let’s hope this letter gets to the Star before those 70-year-old Bell telephone lines on our street turn to dust.

Syd Howes, Brooklin, Ont.
