Funkey since you brought up Arcelor...

Speculation was growing on Monday that the world’s largest steelmaker, ArcelorMittal, could be considering buying the Finnish government’s 31% stake in Outokumpu

ArcelorMittal is thought to be interested in the Finnish company not only because it is said to be outperforming other producers, but also because it has the added advantage of being backwardly integrated as it has its own chrome ore mine.

The buy out…didn’t happen

Cliffs originally planned on mining 800,000 tons of chromite..in 2009

In 2013 this changed to 2.3 million tons of chromite concentrate and 560,000 tons of the smelted stuff.

The 2.3 million tons was for the SOUTH USA.

Back in 2013, North American Stainless (Acerinox), located in Kentucky had a 50% market share of the stainless in the usa…Now they have 35% according to their 2016 annual report.

The team of Arcelormittal- Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metals-Outokumpu.. in Calvert, Alabama USA…was also “happening” in this 2013ish time frame.

Any guesses as to whose name was on the 2.3 million tons headed to the south?

Alabama or Kentucky?…they are both in the south.

When I look at Acerinox 2016 annual report they state: “ “Acerinox Europa is one of the key assets of the Company’s new Strategic Plan for the coming years”

https://www.acerinox.com/opencms901/export/sites/acerinox/.content/galerias/galeria-descargas/informacion-eco-financiera/ACERINOX-INGLES-WEB.pdf

Acerinox’s USA Kentucky location is called NAS

North American Stainless (NAS) casts about 50% of stainless steel throughout North America and has a market share in the United States which stands at around 35%, figures which guarantee its leadership of the American market. It is the Group’s largest factory, fully-owned by Acerinox

For Acerinox’s plant in South Africa (Columbus plant)..it’s mentioned:

The products from the South African plant supply its domestic market and are also exported to five continents.

The Columbus plant(south Africa) enjoys a privileged strategic location, due to its proximity to areas where the raw materials essential for the manufacture of stainless steel can be acquired and

In the United States, the announcement of the definitive closure of the Allegheny Midland plant (ATI) in October 2016  was particularly significant.

NAS and Outokumpu Coil Americas appear to be the only American transformed-made choices for nickel-bearing commodity stainless steels. Not only has ATI exited the commodity stainless market, AK Steel has also been limiting its participation in the chrome nickel market.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Outokumpu appears to be focused on the America’s unlike Acerinox who appears to be more focused on Europa

Outokumpu’s 2016 company presentation;

http://www.outokumpu.com/SiteCollectionDocuments/CompanyPresentation2016.pdf

“To be the best value creator in stainless steel by 2020 through customer orientation and efficiency”

Check out page 6 of 21 “Our Strategic plan” notice :  vision 2020, notice : world class supply chain, Notice: AMERICAS

Let me ask you folks, how do you  create a world class supply chain in the Americas…?

Acerinox , Columbus plant in South Africa….states they enjoy a privileged strategic location due to  its proximity to areas where the raw materials essential for making stainess are

So…what is planned for:  The team of Arcelormittal- Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metals-Outokumpu.. in Calvert, Alabama USA?? Sounds VERY ROF related to me.

And what about North America Steel in Kentucky (owned by Acerinox)?...Interestingly Nisshin is a large shareholder at Acerinox..

And just March of …this year….2017

http://www.nssmc.com/en/company/message/nisshin.html

Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation (“NSSMC”) completed the procedures to acquire 51% of the shares of common stock of Nisshin Steel Co., Ltd. (“Nisshin Steel”) and made the company a subsidiary of NSSMC.  As from today, both companies will promote business operations, including those of subsidiaries that are majority owned by either company, in an integrated manner under common business policies as members of the NSSMC Group.

I thought it was Washington that said this famous quote but it was Abraham Lincoln

“Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe.

This statement means have patience.

In the case of the ROF….the “Club” spent 10 years sharpening the knife…and now..it is time to focus on the tree.
