Message: What is the convoy carrying

Most of the winter roads in northern Ontario follow terrain and vary from single ‘lane’ to dual ‘lane’ as permitted by conditions.  Many permit bidirectional travel by having defined pull overs or bypasses.   The winter road season is very short and a massive amount of goods and supplies move on them weather permitting.   On top of hauling freight the roads are used by the residents to get out to visit and buy their own supplies.   The result is that you have large rigs and personal vehicles sharing space in lousy conditions.   Not a good combination  It has been the norm for a while to actively manage winter road use.  There are staging yards where everything is prepped, loaded into convoys and traffic is in both directions is managed to maximize usage and safety.

It’s interesting to speculate but I suspect we won’t see any significant staging of construction equipment etc until there is a formal announcement.

... Been There
