Message: Grand Chief says First Nations wary of Doug Ford

First point that confuses me is that Grand Chief Solomon is comparing Doug Ford to a Government from 1905? Seriously? I could make some very interesting comparisons to 1905 to my ancestors that lived in the Ukraine area at that time and the horrors those people faced when the government changed from the Czar to the Communist Party of Russia. Most of my Mennonite ancestors were sent way up to the far north of Russia in train boxcars and have all but perished. I suppose comparing apples and oranges is unfair to our First Nations partners...

Secondly, did I see Grand Chief Solomon claim that they are Ontarians too? Could somebody please tell GC Solomon to pick a people and stick with it!! Either you are a First Nations people or you are Ontarians. You can't just switch back and forth whenever it suits you better to be the other!! That is preposterous to say the least.

Now back to the first point. I personally think that the First Nations of Canada should consider themselves fortunate and not cry "foul" all the time in this great country of Canada. The Mennonites that were shipped out of the Ukraine in the early 1900's are all dead to my knowledge. All of my ancestors that were in the Ukraine were sent to work camps where they were literally "worked to death" according to the books that I have read concerning what happened in the early 1900's when the Red Party took over in Russia or better known as the USSR. I think that if the First Nations People of Canada signed a bad treaty, they should consider themselves fortunate compared to the people of the Ukraine. I have no ancestors other than those who managed to make it to Canada. They are dead and are not complaining about treaties that were made in bad faith and crying about "reconcilliation" for being taken advantage of. If they wish to compare their people with "my people", they win hands down... My people who managed to make it to Canada started over and worked hard for what they got. I myself moved out of my little town where I grew up and worked in the province of Manitoba as a linemen for almost 35 years to pay the bills. I couldn't stay in 1 place because I needed to get out of my small town and go to where the work was.

Ok, I managed to survive all on my own by working hard for most of my life. I have had no handouts and have paid my fair share of taxes over those 35 plus years. No complaints here until I hear of other people who stay in their little towns (or reserves) and complain about how bad they have been treated and woe are they being mistreated by the governments of yesteryear and comparing them to the governments of today. Get out and go to work. It satisfies you and gives you a sense of pride where you don't have time to think about suicide as you are too busy looking at how you can make ends meet to think about suicide as you have a family to feed and kids to raise on what you can earn with your own 2 hands (or brain if you get a job that requires the use of it instead of getting your hands dirty). That is what can happen if everyone would look at what opening up the North can do for them instead of focusing on what they can get for nothing while crying about reconcilliation... Help the government open up the Ring of Fire and there will be jobs there for a lot of people for a long time. Then you can get your hands dirty and go dig out the goodies up there and get a paycheck instead of staying home crying about not getting enough of the Ring of Fire just because you happen to live close by.

All right, I've said my rant for the year... Agree with me or disagree with me, that is your right to choose but for goodness sake, let's get this Mine started already in an Environmentally Healthy way so jobs can be created and I can maybe get a positive return on my investment that I made because of the goods in the ground up there. It's been over 10 years already and we still can't get a concensus together to start this project. What a shame!! Forget politics and lets start this project. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY will partner with Noront with the money required to build that smelter and/or mine without everybody on board. Oh, and if everybody up there (all 9 Reserves) think that they all need their 10% cut or Net Smelter Percentage, nobody again would ever consider investing billions of dollars to start this project. Let's get some common sense started here and maybe, just maybe everyone can prosper from this find we all lovingley know as,

"THE RING OF FIRE"!!!
